Foreign Ministry issues new passport regulations

(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued revised regulations regarding the issuance of various categories of Liberian Passports.

These revised regulations provide for four categories of Liberian passports include ordinary, service, official and diplomatic books.

Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, said: "Non-Liberians, desirous of serving the country as honorary consuls, will not be given the privilege of carrying a diplomatic passport."

“They are simply not entitled to such privilege, as required under the new regulations,” Minister Ngafuan said.

He announced the new regulations Thursday 6th December, 2012 at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism’s weekly press briefing in Monrovia.

“Diplomatic and Official Passports are privileged documents and are issued certain categories of individuals spelled out in the regulations,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.

Also, request for Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports for individuals in government will have to come from the heads of interested institutions.”

"All other categories of passports will be issued interested individuals for a two-year period, with the exception of ordinary passports that will be issued such individuals for a five-year period,” the Liberian Foreign Minister said.
