Liberia signs $10 Million grant agreement

MOMROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government and the African Development Bank (ADB) have signed a 10 Million United States Dollars grant agreement for budget support to Liberia.

ADB Country Manager Orison Amu signed for the bank while Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweah signed behalf of the Liberian Government.

The grant is the ADB’s Economic Governance and Competitiveness Support Project and was approved by the bank’s Board of Executive Directors on July 31, 2018.

In remarks during the signing ceremony Tuesday, August 21, 2018, Orison Amu said:” The 10 Million dollars is aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth by supporting government’s efforts to improve transparency and accountability in public financial management.”

He noted that the grant is also intended to enhance private sector competitiveness in Liberia by creating an enabling environment that will attract investment opportunities.

In response, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah assured that government will work to ensure that the purpose of the grant is realized, and called for more deepening partnership with the bank.
