MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several public schools in four counties will this academic year benefit from a special school feeding program.

The feeding program is initiated by Save the Children and the Education Ministry.

Pupils attending Public schools in Rivercess, Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Grand Bassa Counties are direct beneficiaries of the program.

Speaking to ELBC Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Save the Children Deputy Chief of Party, Morris Gbessagee, said the program is a five year program funded by the U.S Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Gbessagee said the food for education and child nutrition program is been implemented by Save the Children in consultation with Mercy Corps and in partnership the Education ministry.

He said:” The program has two key strategic objectives, including helping to improve the level of literacy of school age children and increasing the use of health practices in schools.”

Mr. Gbessagee said the four counties were selected based on the outcome of a study on the most needed areas.

Meanwhile, the official launch of the program takes place tomorrow in Monrovia, with key education actors gracing the ceremony.
