Liberia appeals to WHO to help device means…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia is appealing to the World Health Organization (WHO) to assist device a financial mechanism to bridge the financial gap its health sector is being faced with.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Francis Kateh, told an ongoing regional gathering in Darkar, Senegal, that the allotment in the National Budget for the Health Sector is inadequate due to the size of the Country’s Financial Plan.

A Ministry of Health release signed by its Communication Consultant, Sorbor George, quotes Dr. Kateh as saying WHO, as a technical partner to Liberia, must device innovative means to the Country to meet the Universal Health Coverage.

He said Liberia has a Pro-Poor Agenda that seeks to meet the needs of the people in all spheres of life, especially health.

He told the regional forum Tuesday, August 28, 2018, that Liberia is among countries that have taken significant steps in meeting the Abuja Declaration, demanding that every country contributes fifteen percent of their National Budgets to health.

The Chief Medical Officer stressed that health is not cheap, and as such, obtaining the Universal Health Coverage has to be a bilateral agreement between the people and the government for ownership.
