Prez Weah attends summit in the Far East

BEIJING, CHINA-President George Manneh Weah and a high-level Liberian delegation are in Beijing, China, attending the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China – Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

The third summit of the FOCAC runs from September 3rd to the 5th while the seventh Ministerial Conference takes place on September 2.

President Weah is expected to hold bilateral discussions with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

As part of his activities, the Liberian leader will attend a high-level dialogue between African and Chinese leaders and business representatives.

This year’s summit seeks to build a stronger community with a shared future between China and Africa which will yield important outcomes including the connection of the Belt and Road Initiative with Agenda 2063 of the African Union and the UN 2030 Agenda on sustainable development.

On hand to welcome President Weah and delegation at the Beijing International Airport were Foreign Minister Gbehzongar Findley, Defense Minister Daniel Ziankhan, Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe, Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah, and Agriculture Minister Dr. Mogana Flomo.

President Weah says Liberia will continue to build relationship with the People’s Republic of China as the government endeavors to implement its pro-poor development agenda.

President Weah said:” China and Liberia share common values which make the relationship mutually beneficial.”

The Liberian Leader was speaking Tuesday, August 28, 2018, on his arrival in Beijing, China, for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

The President said while attending his first FOCAC summit, his goal is to strengthen the ties between Liberia and China and see how the relationship can pick in the coming years.

He promised to also use the visit to explore new frontiers for increased trade between Liberia and China, for the mutual benefit of both countries.
