GT Bank Managing Director charged with aggravated assault, goes to court today

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged GT Bank Liberia Managing Director, Ayodeli Bejide, with aggravated assault.

It came after the Nigerian allegedly threw a calculator at senior staff Edward Freeman, injuring him in the process.

Freeman suffered wounds on his lips following the incident on Tuesday at GT Bank Liberia head office in Monrovia.

The Liberia National Police said Mr. Bejide will be forwarded to court on Thursday, August 30, 2018.

Meanwhile,GT Bank Liberia has relieved its Managing Director Ayodeji Bejide pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

The decision announced Wednesday, August 29, 2018, followed a directive by the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) asking the Board to dismiss the Managing Director until the conclusion of the case.

In a statement, GT Bank said as a law abiding entity with zero tolerance for assault, it is not only taking the matter seriously but also treating it with urgency.

The Bank said it will engage the assault victim and other stakeholders within Bank to ensure that such incident never occurs again.

The Bank said it does not condone acts of assault at the work place, nor does it compromise its core principle that every staff should come to work without fear of being harassed, intimidated or assaulted
