The Liberian Government says it has received with surprise and disappointment, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Board’s decision to suspend Liberia for delay in publishing its 9th EITI Report.

A release issued Monday, September 11, 2018 in Monrovia said: “The EITI Board clearly indicted in paragraph - 1, that the Board took the decision on 4th September to suspend Liberia for no publishing the EITI Report for fiscal period June 2016 within the July1, 2018 deadline”.

The release said the fact that Liberia has missed its deadline for reporting cannot be attributed to a seven month-old government.

Meanwhile the government has assured its commitment to the ideals and core values of EITI and will do everything to ensure compliance for reinstatement.
