MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Finance and Development, has announced the introduction of a Mobile Money payment scheme.

The Mobile Money platform will be used for the payment of salaries of civil servants and other basic transactions by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

Liberia’s Controller and Accounting General, Janga Kowo, made the disclosure Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia.

Mr. Kowo said:” The latest move will reduce cost most often incurred by civil servants in getting their pay, especially those in the counties.”

According to the Controller General, the Mobile Money platform will also save government some money it has used in sending pay teams around the Country.

He wants civil servants to make use of the platform and save the associated cost of traveling long distances to get their pay.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kowo said:” The process is optional and that the Ministry is working with the Civil Servants Association to ensure full usage of the Mobile Money platform.”
