MONROVIA, LIBERIA-House Speaker, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, is calling on former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to desist from making further statements about ongoing investigations into money printed abroad and brought into the country by the Central Bank of Liberia.

Dr. Chambers said:” Former President Sirleaf is a person of interest in the ongoing investigations, given that her administration authorized the printing of the money in question against the advice of the National Legislature.”

Addressing a press conference Thursday, October 18, 2018, Speaker Chambers said the statements from Madam Sirleaf are counter-productive to the ongoing investigations.

The former Liberian leader in a recent interview alleged that the current government lacks understanding of monetary trends in the economy and advised her son, Charles Sirleaf, to resign as Deputy Governor of the CBL.
Dr. Chambers wants Madam Sirleaf to apologize to President George Weah and the Government of Liberia for the statement made in her interview.

However, Dr. Chambers said it is important for Madam Sirleaf to divorce herself from her children given the crucial role they play in the economy of Liberia.

He maintained that at no time did the National Legislature authorize the CBL to print additional 10 (b) billion as claimed by the past government.
