MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Manneh Weah has emphasized the need to harmonize the labor laws of Liberia.

The Labor sector in the country is currently being regulated by two laws, the Decent Work Act of 2015 and the Civil Service Agency Standing order.

The Liberian leader said:” Such reform will go a long way in creating a decent work environment for both workers and employers across the country.”

Speaking at the start of the first ever National Labor Conference in Monrovia Monday, November 19, 2018, President Weah also called on stakeholders to push for equal protection of all workers in the country.

The President is at the same time admonishing union leaders to always use dialogue to address critical issues affecting the labor force.

According to President Weah, history has shown that protest has never changed anything, neither has it helped improve the condition of workers.

He said dialogue is a powerful and more appealing tool union leaders can always use to get the best deals from employers.

The three days National Labor Conference is being held under the Theme ‘A Decent Workforce under One Labor Law’.
