MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) says customers are indebted to the company in the tone of 6 (M) Million United States Dollars.

The Company’s Managing Director, Duwana Kamara, said a Debt Recovery Team has been established to ensure that monies owed the LWSC are paid by customers.

Addressing the Ministry of Information Press Briefing Thursday, November 22, 2018, Mr. Kamara said that the taskforce will include the Liberia National Police (LNP) and other institutions.

He said:” The task force will be empowered to arrest and prosecute customers who are involved in water theft.”

According to the LWSC Boss the taskforce will target individuals who are claiming to be LWSC employees and are connecting people illegally.

He said his team has discovered that a lot of homes are benefiting from water supply through illegal means.

Mr.Kamaara is, however, encouraging the public to stop doing business with anyone who is not an employee of the entity.

Meanwhile, the LWSC Management says it has constructed three mini water plants in Grand Cape Mount, Nimba and Lofa Counties worth 29 (M) Million United States Dollars.

According to the Managing Director, Duwana Kamara, the facilities were constructed through the assistance of the Liberia Municipal Water Project.

He said the plant in Robertsport will supply about 1 (M) Million gallons of water to residents of the area.

He said the other two plants constructed in Voinjama City, Lofa County and Sanniquellie in Nimba County, adding that the money for the construction was provided by USAID.

He said the three water plants will be dedicated shortly in Sanniquellie by President George Manneh Weah.

The LWSC Boss said the company is working with the World Bank and the African Development Bank in providing pipe borne water to Liberians.
