(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has expressed disappointment over alleged continued brutality of Journalists by state security officers.

The PUL says its comment is in reaction to the recent clash between four journalists and state security officers in Monrovia.

The Union President, Peter Quaqua said: “The Journalists attempted filming the situation involving suspended Monrovia City Mayor, Mary Broh, at the Temple of Justice Tuesday 26th February, 2013.

The PUL boss expressed his disappointment Thursday 28th February, 2013 when he spoke to lbsonline in Monrovia.

“Victor Dorbor of Clar TV, Nathaniel Walker of the Analyst Newspaper, Habakkuk Sackor, a media officer with the Public Works Ministry and another person were the four Journalists mal-handled by state security officers last Tuesday,” Mr. Quaqua said.

“Victor Dorbor of Clar TV was assaulted and his camera smashed by a City Police officer, who was preventing the Journalists from filming the scene, Journalist Nathaniel walker was beaten and subsequently detained by the Police when he expressed his resentment at what had happened to his colleagues.”

The PUL President said: added: “Habakkuk Sackor was also picked up in the Police operation and thrown behind bars, because, according to him, the Journalist was in the proximity of the incident.”

“A Fourth Journalist was seen at the Police Station seeking redress for a damaged key on his laptop,” he further noted.

Mr. Quaqua also explained: “The Union understands that the same City Police Officer, who smashed Journalist Dorbor’s camera, was the same guy who damaged the laptop that belongs to the Journalist seen at the Police Station.”

Meanwhile, Police Spokesman, Sam Collins, says: “Investigation has been launched into the situation. Mr. Collins however refused to give further clarification on the matter.”
