Pres. Weah declares Monday, February 11, a Nat’l Holiday

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Manneh Weah has by proclamation declared tomorrow, Monday, February 11, Armed Forces Day, and is to be observed as a National Holiday throughout the Republic.

 

The Proclamation directs all military and paramilitary organizations in the Country to organize and execute appropriate programs, including parades, in recognition of the Day.

 

A release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says all government offices, public and business houses are to be closed during the observance. 

 

According to the release issued Saturday, February 9,2019, this year’s Armed Forces Day will be celebrated under the theme: ‘’ Building a Force for Good, Through Service and Welfare’’ at the Barclay Training Center (BTC in Monrovia.

 

The release says the Proclamation is in consonance with an Act of National Legislature declaring the 11th day of February each year as “Armed Forces Day” to be celebrated as a National Holiday.

 

At the same time, President George Weah’s proclamation has recognized the vital role of the Armed Forces in defending and protecting Liberia’s territorial integrity and its people from foreign aggression.

 

President Weah’s proclamation acknowledged men and women of the Armed Forces for upholding the social and political liberty of the people of Liberia as enshrined in the constitution of Liberia.

 

It stressed that with the professional development the AFL has been reinvigorated to discharge its constitutional responsibilities and contribute to Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda on infrastructure and development.

 

According to the Proclamation, during the observance, special attention and honor will be given to veterans of the AFL and Coast   Guard for upholding the tenants of democracy and human rights during service.

 

Former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Cllr. Philip Banks, will serve as this year’s Armed Forces Day orator.
