MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Public Works Minister, Mobutu Nyenpan, says the closure of the Timbo River Bridge will be instructed by the Ministry and not the company working on the bridge.

The consultant to the Jupiter Construction Company contracted to do the dilapidated bridge Wednesday, February 20, 2019, closed the bride to commuters causing serious public outcry.

Consultant Joseph Quansah told our correspondent he closed the bridge because it’s not safe for commuters, and using it while repair works are ongoing may delay contactors in meeting their dead line.

He said:” We have just two months to complete the bridge before the rains come, and the Public Works Ministry is yet to complete the detour as part of the agreement.

But public works Minister, Mobutu Nyenpan, told ELBC Thursday, February 21, 2019, that efforts are being exerted to complete the detour route in the soonest possible time, to enable the company to continue work on the bridge.

He said:” The Ministry is aware of concerns raised by the company but closing the bridge without informing the users of the route is not the right thing to do.”

The Timbo River Bridge links Grand Bassa County to Rivercess County and other Southeastern counties.
