MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo Information Services (LISGIS)  has said  it needs over US$19 million to conduct the 2019 National Population Census in Liberia.

According to LISGIS Acting Director General, Alex Williams, the cost to conduct the census has been shared with government’s international partners, including UNFPA, the World Bank and the Swedish Government among others.

He said out of the 19 million, the Liberian Government has allotted US$3million in the 2018 / 2019 National Budget. “Currently the Census Secretariat including other components of the 2019 Census are now in place and others are being worked on”, Mr. Williams said.

He made the disclosure Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the regular Ministry of Information’s weekly Press conference, stating that the National Population Census is cardinal to the development of the Liberia.

The LISGIS’ Acting Boss further disclosed that the national population census was slated for last year but due the 2017 Elections, the transitional period and financial constraint hindered the process. Liberia’s last census was conducted in 2008.
