MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The Government of Liberia is holding stakeholders’ meeting to address Firestone’s redundancy plan in the Second Quarter of 2019. The Second Quarter begins early April and ends June, 2019.

The Government’s decision was disclosed to ELBC Monday, March 18, 2019, by Labor Minister, Moses Kollie.

Minister Kollie has confirmed the latest decision by the Management of Firestone - Liberia pending government’s position, but said: “The meeting is intended to inform about  Government’s official position on the matter”.

Firestone - Liberia has blamed the decision to reduce its workforce by 13% or 800%, on continued and unsustainable losses from high overhead costs associated with its Concession Agreement with the Liberian Government.

The company also attributed its decisionto to low natural rubber production; the Country’s prolonged Civil War and continued low global natural rubber prices.
