(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Vice President (VP), Joseph Boakai, has extolled the long-standing ties between Liberia and Germany.

Vice President Boakai recounted Germany’s involvement in the reconstruction of post-war Liberia through its many non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The Vice President made the statements Thursday March 8, 2013 when a German Parliamentary delegation called on him at his office at the National Legislature on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

Foreign Ministry officials, along with German Ambassador to Liberia, Dr. Bodo Schaff, escorted the delegation to the Vice President’s office.

Vice President Boakai and the delegation intensively discussed Liberia’s development programs.

During the meeting, he recounted Germany’s involvement in the reconstruction of post-war Liberia through its many non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The Liberian Vice President said: “Though investments in oil and other areas are very important to Liberia’s development agenda, the future of the country lies in the agriculture sector.”

“The urgent needs right now are in the energy sector, because all investments depend on energy,” he added.

Vice President Boakai also said: “The uniqueness about Liberia’s reconstruction challenges is that the basic infrastructures were devastated during the country’s many years of civil conflict.”

“The effective delivery of basic social services, such as health, education and agriculture, depends on good road network,” he also said.

The Liberian Vice President then thanked the German delegation for the visit and wished the group a successful stay in the Country.
