MONROVIA, Liberia- Justice Minister, Musa Dean, said about 102 rape cases, out of 111 have been convicted and fully disposed of.

According to Minister Dean, two additional courts to specifically handle rape cases have been opened in Nimba and Bong Counties. Mr. Dean described such move as government’s achievement in its quest to deal with sexual violence and abuse against women and girls.

Providing some statistics, Wednesday, March 28, 2019 at the regular Ministry of Information weekly Press Conference held   in Monrovia, the Justice Minister said: “Out of the 102 convicted rape cases, 82 were convicted in Montserrado County, 14 in Bong, Lofa and Nimba, 4 in Maryland, Grand Kru and River Gee and while  2 in Grand Bassa and Sinoe”.

Meanwhile, Minister Dean also revealed the commencement of the monthly burning of narcotics instead of burning narcotics yearly. This new policy, according to the Justice Minister, is due to lack of adequate storage on the part of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
