LNBA endorses War and Economic Crimes Court settlement in Liberia

KAKATA, LIBERIA - The Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) has endorsed the establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in the Country.

The LNB also endorsed the implementations of the TRC’s Recommendations.

According to ELBC Judicial Reporter, the Liberia Bar Association reached the decision Saturday, March 30, 2019 in Kakata, Margibi County, at the close of its 2019 Assembly recording 94 delegates in attendance.

Out of the total 94 delegates in attendance, 86 voted for the establishment of the War and Economic Crime Court and the implementation of the TRC Recommendations, respectively.

During the LNBA’s weekend election, four delegates abstained with four going against. The TRC Report has been before the Legislature for more than a decade since its completion in 2009.

According to our reporter, minutes after the process, the LNBA President, Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe, told journalists that: “The Bar’s official position is to foster accountability and denounce the culture of impunity following the civil war”.

Prior to the Bar’s action, there has being public reactions taking center stage on whether or not the TRC Recommendations should be implemented.
