Liberia Football Association referee dies…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberian football referees are mourning the death of one of their colleagues Lackey Massaquoi.

Referee Massaquoi died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the SKD Sports Complex (SKD) in Paynesville, during a Fifa Fitness Test for football referees.

Lackey Massaquoi who was based in Lower Margibi County fell and died moments after taking off on the fitness test.

Hospital report says Lackey Massaquoi died of heart failure.

Medics at the fitness test said referee Massaquoi and 48 others who turned out for the test were examined and declared ok to take the test.

The Saturday’s fitness test was not the first for the late Massaquoi, as he made a successful pass in the 2018 high level fitness test.

The 34-year-old formally joined the Liberia Football Referees Association in 2014 after serving as referee in communities games over several years period.

Lackey Massaquoi was a county referee who was aiming at becoming a Fifa badge referee.

He was assigned to cover league matches of the Liberia Football Association in Margibi County and sometimes outside the county.
The fallen Liberian football referee was a senior student at the University of Liberia studying mathematics.

Meanwhile, tributes have been pulling in since news of the death of the referee.

The Liberia Football Association called off all of its league matches that were scheduled to take place in Margibi County at the weekend.
