Liberian Govt.expresses concern over alleged assassination threat

MONROVIA,LIBERIA-The Liberian Government said it is seriously concern over startling revelation made by Radio Talk-Show host,T.Max Jlateh,that there are plot by some unknown individuals to assassinate journalists across the Country.

The Government says it attaches seriousness to Jlateh’s allegation due to its gravity and therefore warrants a speedy investigation into the situation.

According to a statement issued Thursday, April 4, 2019, the Liberian Government said it is aware that are integral part in the enhancement of a functioning democracy.

The statement also quotes Government as saying it is committed to seeking to create space for all, including journalist as evidenced by the passage of the Kamara Abdullah Kamara Act decentralizing speech offenses.

The Liberian Government also clarified the contrary to Journalist Jlateh’s assertiuon; no journalists will be threatened on account of their views and total disregard to the intent of the new law.

The statement also quotes Government as saying it is doing everything possible to along with the Press Union of Liberia and the journalism community to ensure the implementation of existing laws to protect Freedom of Speech and of the Press.

Meanwhile, the Government is calling on Mr.Jlateh to cooperate with the relevant agencies and produce all information available to assist it the investigation.
