(mylbsonline/Liberisa)-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has, by proclamation, declared Friday March 15, 2013 as a National Holiday.

The day is the 204th birth anniversary of former President, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, and it was observed across Liberia as such.

In observance of the day, President Johnson-Sirleaf ordered: “All Government Offices, public and business entities to be closed on that day.”

The proclamation is in consonance with the Act passed by the third session of the 42nd National Legislature, memorializing the birth anniversary of Liberia’s first President, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, as a National Holiday.

The day was in recognition of the sacrificial services rendered the nation and people by the founding father of Liberia and Former President of the nation, Joseph Jenkins Robert.

Former President Roberts led the nation to its declaration of independence on July 26, 1847. He was also the President of Africa’s first independent state, Liberia.
