MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) says it has unearthed discrepancies from the just ended verification of assets declaration of past and present officials of government.

The Commission, in a statement issued over the weekend, said:” Officials in some instances failed to disclose complete financial information, while others reported suspicious bank loans and repayment plan.”

The release under the signature of the LACC Public Relations Officer, Edwin Clark, added that some public officials have assets or real properties that have not been declared with the Liberian Revenue Authority (LACC).

Clark said such attempt undermines the legitimate payment of lawful government taxes.

The LACC also noticed conflicting property valuation amongst the various assets declared by public officials.

The Liberia’s Chief Anti-Graft body says it will proceed with the next step having interactions with public officials who violated provisions of the Code of Conduct of public officials and other provisions of the Penal Code.

The Commission is encouraging public officials to truthfully declare their assets to avoid unintended consequences, including charges relating to perjury and other criminal offenses.
