BEIJING, CHINA-China has made a passionate commitment to continue supporting Liberia.

The People’s Republic of China has named four key priority areas of interest, including, infrastructures, roads, bridges and public projects.

According to a dispatch, the Spokesperson of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, Tian Lin made the disclosure Wednesday, April 24, 2019, when he addressed a team of journalists at the Africa Press Center in Beijing.

Mr. Tian said:” China’s engagement with Liberia and other developing countries is built on the principles of mutual respect.”

He said the two countries have enjoyed mutual cooperation and friendship since the reestablishment of the relations with the People’s Redemption Council (PRC) many years ago.

Mr. Tian however dismissed the notion from such quarters that China is only interested in Liberia because of its rich natural resources.

He said:” China has never made economic benefits or returns as precondition for its foreign development assistance to countries, including Liberia.”

His clarification was in response to a question about China’s future development assistance package for Liberia ahead of the start of the Belt and Road Forum.
The second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation officially begins on Friday, April 26, 2019, with 126 countries, including developed and developing nations expected to be in attendance.

The China International Development Agency (CIDA) is the official arm of the government of the PRC responsible to formulate strategic guidelines, plans and policies for foreign aid.

The CIDCA Official, however, said for Liberia and other receiving countries to ensure the effectiveness of Chinese Aid, they must invest wisely and fully utilize the assistance to improve the livelihood of the ordinary people.
