Liberia’s Peace Laureate, Laymah Gbowee seeks to end global violence

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - Liberia’s Nobel Peace Laureate, Laymah Gbowee and her counterpart Madam Rigoberta Menchu Tum, of Guatemala are seeking to end violence globally and create space for universal security in building human rights, justice and equality for all.

The two Peace Laureates, spoke at a three-day summit on the theme; ‘Claiming Our Space Emerging Feminist Voices for Peace’, and wants the voices of young people be heard to uphold the peace.

Madam Gbowee Said:” Its expedient that you young people to make you voices heard in a positive way to secure a better future”. Madam Gbowee pointed out that four out of five former female Nobel Peace Laureates are in Liberia and are assembling every two years across the globe to celebrate young people.

‘The Nobel Women’s Initiative’ among other objectives, is seeking to end violence globally and create space for universal security in building human rights, justice and equality for all.

For her part, the ‎Guatemalan Peace Laureate, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, said: “Peace is infinite, so Liberians need to uphold the peace that you are enjoying currently”.

They spoke Monday, April 29, 2019 at the opening session of ‘The Nobel Women’s Initiative’s 2019 Conference ongoing at the Monrovia City Hall, and runs until May 3, 2019, is expected to attract President George Weah, to grace the occasion. 

Also addressing the forum, Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard Talor, said: “Women out to take advantage of the space given them to contribute to the growth and development of your respective countries because equality, more awareness and political actions will always create the space for emerging ideas by women around the world”.

VP Taylor is also urging young people to do their best out of everything and correct the mistakes of the past.
