Anti-AIDS Media dialogue with media, as LIWEN elect crops of officers

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The secretariat of the Anti-AIDS Media Network (AAMIN) is dialoguing with media managers, editors and its Specialized Health and HIV/AIDS Reporters to make maximum use of the HIV Media Guide for public education.

The Executive Director of the network, Necus Andrews, called on the media managers and reporters to consider sexual rights as human rights because the media role remain critical  and could have positive consequence in the fight against HIV and other related diseases.

For his part, a Specialist from AAMIN’s Secretariat, Solomon Watkins, cautioned the media to flag sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV issues as agenda in the news and encouraged journalists to remain conscious of reporting issues on the rights of sexual minority and vulnerable groups for interventions. 

The separate AAMIN consultative dialogues with 30 media practitioners is aimed at creating space for  SRHR and reporting on other human rights issues in the country.

At the same time the Liberian Women Empowerment Network (LIWEN) has elected their corps of officers for the first time to steer the affairs of the group for the next three years.

The Friday, April 26, 2019 election brought together 46 delegates representing women   from the 15 counties elected Cecelia   Cole, as President, Mamie Free, Vice President, Edith Zoegar, Secretary General and Kadiatu Sellah, financial secretary, among others.
