Gov’t denies alleged plan to reduce civil servants’ salaries

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The Liberian Government has ensured that it has no plan to reduce civil servants’ salaries.

The government’s clarification is in reaction to widespread reports, alleging that it has planned to reduce the salaries of civil servants as part of its austerity measures.

Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby, “Government’s planned austerity measures will only affect high ranking officials of government in the Executive and will affect more than 4,000 top government officials who earned above US$1,000 and above.

Speaking to ELBC told ELBC Tuesday, May 7, 2019 Mr. Toby also disclosed that the new measure will address salary disparities and ensure that officials of government occupying the same positions get equal pay.

He said deputy and assistant ministers who earns above one thousand United States Dollars will receive 10 percent reduction.
