Unity, Liberty Parties file for Bassas Bi-election

By Moses Garzewu

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Two Liberian political parties are apparently the only political institutions in the country interested in the up-coming Grand Bassa County Senatorial Bi-election.

The Ruling Unity Party and Liberty Party are said to be the only two political alliances having so far declared their intentions to field candidates in the up-coming Bi-election in the county.

According to the National Elections Commission (NEC) Grand Bassa County Magistrate, David Logan, the two parties have already picked-up nomination forms at NEC’s office in Buchanan, the county’s provincial Capital.

Mr. Logan said: “Two independent candidates have also pick-up nomination forms to enable them participate in the Bi-election.”

He named former Defense Minister, Daniel Chea, as one of the two independent candidates who have so far expressed his intent to feature in the May 7 polls.

“The replacement of voter’s registration cards will begin 25th March and ends 5th April, 2013. 34 centers in Grand Bassa County will be used to carry out the voter’s registration card replacement exercise.”
