By Saywah Gbaa

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Liberia has been named among other countries of the world to host the Future Regional Meeting on the African Charter’s ratification, popularization and implementation.

The African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance seeks to promote democratic culture and nurture independent civil societies in the democratization process of the country.

An official of ECOWAS, Dr. Fatahr Moussah, urged civil societies to embark on measures to prevent post-conflict region security threats.

Dr. Moussah said: “It is the responsibility of civil societies to identify factors that impede Good Governance and development.”

He named political instability as one of the major challenges that have continuously blocked developments in Africa.

Dr. Moussah pledged ECOWAS continued support to the Network for Preventive Framework in disseminating the Charter’s contents.

The ECOWAS official described the Media’s role as crucial to the advocacy of the Charter, geared at informing and educating the citizenry about the Charter and protocol implementation.

“The Media cannot report threats regarding elections and challenges of National Reconciliation in the absence of Press freedom lacking in parts of Africa.

The Regional Meeting ended in Abidjan, the Capital of La Cote D’Ivoire, with a representation of 14 African States.
