Council of Patriots finally makes recommendations to Gov.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Council of Patriots has finally made several of recommendations to the Government of Liberia.

Key amongst the recommendations, the Council of Patriots wants electoral and economic reforms, respect for the rule of law and good governance.

According to our reporter, the Council of Patriots’ recommendations were contained in in the petition read Sunday at a news conference on the Old Road in Sinkor, Monrovia.

Prior to the June 7, 2019 protest, the Liberian Government and international partners sought dialogue but its organizers refused to do so.

Meanwhile, the Council of Patriots has lauded government through the joint security and international partners, for ensuring a peaceful conduct of the June 7 Protest.

However, ECOWAS has expressed disappointment in the Council of Patriots for its failure to present the petition during the June 7 Protest.

ECOVAS said amidst series of mediation efforts and arrangements by the government, local and international stakeholders, the Council’s action was unacceptable.

The regional body also wants the Liberian Government and the Council of Patriots engage in constructive dialogue for sustaining peace and stability in Liberia.
ECOWAS called on both parties to continue dialoging with the view of finding amicable solutions to address genuine concerns in line with the Constitution of Liberia and the Rule of Law.

According a statement issued over the weekend, ECOWAS pledged its commitment to continue facilitating the socio-economic development of the Country.

The ECOWAS’s statement followed Friday, June 7 Protest organized by the Council of Patriots on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

The statement also quoted ECOWAS AS COMMENDING The Liberian Government and organizers of the June 7 Protest for ensuring a non-violent peaceful assembly.

In a related development, the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) has expressed disappointment in the Council of Patriots for failing to present its petition to the Liberian Government on Friday, June 7, 2019.

The EFFL was one of several pressure groups that organized the June 7 Protest.

According to a release, the EFFL believed that Friday was the perfect opportunity for protesters to present their petition to the government in the presence of the international community.

The group also apologized to the Liberian people on behalf of the Council of Protest for not seizing the opportunity to do the presentation.
The EFFL has however assured its commitment to advocating for the wellbeing of the Liberian people.
