Pres. Weah commits to harmonizing payroll…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has committed the Government of Liberia’s resolve to harmonizing the payroll of Government.

The commitment comes following a recommendation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), admonishing the Liberian Government to reduce its wage bill.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby, said:” The focus of the exercise is to improve the welfare of civil servants and help reduce huge spending as was done in the past.”

Smith Toby told Executive Mansion reporters those relevant officials of Government are now looking at the policy as the conclusion process gets underway.

He added that the new policy will also bring civility to the sector.

Meanwhile, the IMF Delegation to Liberia has welcomed the recent appointments made by President George Weah at the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL).

The head of the IMF Delegation, Mika Saito, “Said the appointment of Non-Executive Governors and two Acting Executive Governors is vital for the improvement of the entity.”

Madam Saito said it will bring about good governance and efficient operations at the CBL.

Speaking Monday, June 24, 2019, she called on the CBL to consider its operational budget, improve internal controls and oversight, including strengthening governance.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah said the Government of Liberia is trying to restructure the Central Bank’s debts and vowed to fight corruption.
