MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court ‘C’ has denied Senator Varney Sherman and seven others’ application for a motion seeking to compel former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s appearance in court to testify in the ongoing Sable Mining bribery case.

The legal team was demanding the appearance of the former President to provide evidence in connection with the amended PPCC Act of 2010.

But the Liberian Government lawyers led by Assistant Justice Minister for Litigation Counselor Wesseh A.Wesseh, rejected defence lawyers’ request to the Court on grounds that the former President is immune from testifying in court.

According to Cllr. Wesseh, the former cannot be held accountable for what she did consistent with Article 61 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia.

Article 61 states in part,” The President shall be immune from any wits, action proceedings, judicial or otherwise, and from arrest, detention on account of any act done by him or her while President of Liberia.
