MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives on the passage of the Domestic Violence Bill of 2019.

The Senate’s concurrence Thursday, July 18, 2019, followed a review and subsequent report by its Committees on Gender, Health, Judiciary, Claims, Petition and Human Rights.

Recently the House of Representatives passed the Bill which has been lingering in the Committee Room since 2014.

The Senate’s Joint Committees Chairman, Senator Peter Coleman, before Plenary’s decision, termed as respect for the Liberian Culture, the detachment of the Female Genital Mutilation from the bill.

Senator Coleman maintained that the passage of the bill by both houses demonstrates commitment of gender equality in Liberia.

Meanwhile, the bill is expected to be submitted to President George Manneh Weah for signature pending its printing into handbills.
