Gov. proposes adoption of Draft Resolution

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government is proposing the adoption of a draft resolution for September 28 to be celebrated as International Day for the Universal Access to Information.

The Government said:” The resolution would complement a 2015 UNESCO Resolution which supports Universal Access to Information.”

The Draft Resolution is expected to be formally submitted on behalf of the Government of Liberia by Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
Making the disclosure on Monday, July 22, 2019, Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the UN, Amb. Maxwell Kemayah, called on UNESCO.UNDP and other international partners to support the proposed resolution.

Ambassador Kemayah said:” Access to information is not only essential for a functioning democracy but also sustainable for UN member states.”

Also speaking was Guy Berger, Director for Freedom of Expression and Media Development at UNESCO.

Mr. Berger said other organization of the UN System could become involved if the General Assembly adopts the Resolution.
