MONTSERRADO COUNTY, LIBERIA-Tallying is underway in the combined Montserrado County Senatorial and Representative By-Elections.

Preliminary results are expected to be released within few days by the National Elections Commission (NEC) and final results within a week.

The By-Elections should have been held earlier but was postponed twice by the National Elections Commission due to technical reasons.

Meanwhile, the Liberia Elections Observation Network (LEON) has described the July 29 combined Montserrado County Senatorial and Representative By-Elections as successful.

LEON’s press release issued Monday, July 29, 2019, said majority of the polling centers across Montserrado County opened on time with 18 % opening in half an hour.

The Elections Observation Network said that turn outs were generally low due to rain, and that opening procedures were generally observed, including polling procedures.

LEON further said that 20% of the polling centers were inaccessible for persons with disabilities and the elderly.

Residents of Montserrado County voted to elect a new Senator to replace the late Senator Geraldine Doe-Sherriff and a Representative to replace the late Representative Adolf Lawrence.

Senator Doe Sherriff died after a protracted illness in Ghana, while Representative Lawrence died in a tragic motor accident, along the Roberts Field Highway, in Lower Margibi County this year.
