MONROVIA, LIBERIA –The Government of Liberia has described as false and misleading, alleged reports that President George Weah has requested a six-month leave from office.

Recent reports circulating on social media claimed that President Weah had written the Legislature to grant him a six-month sick leave.

The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby, said: “President Weah is health and attending national functions, and that the Liberia has no reason to request a sick leave but stabilizing the economy to attract investors remains a paramount concern to the Liberian leader”.

Mr. Toby said: “The information has no iota of truth”.  He pointed out that President Weah is concerned about the constant wave of false information being made about the Presidency by some Liberians.

The Deputy Press Secretary made the disclaimer Tuesday, September 10, 2019, when he addressed the Executive Mansion regular Press briefing held in Monrovia.

He further stressed that the Liberian leader is preparing to attend a meeting with other West African Heads of State in Burkina Faso, before his trip to attend the United Nations’ General Assembly.
