UNFPA to support Liberia’s 2020 Population Census

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has promised to support the conduct of the National Housing and Population Census in Liberia 2020.

The Project through its newly approved 2020-2024 Country Program Document (CPD) for Liberia is expected to strengthen National capacity and systems in data collection, among others. 

According to a dispatch, the disclosure was made recently at UN Headquarters in New York, by UNFPA's Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Mabingue Ngom.

Mr. Ngom said the Document forms on equity, right-based and culturally sensitive approaches, leveraging innovative practices to overcome challenges affecting the most vulnerable groups, including women, adolescents, and youth.

The dispatch said the UNFPA will also support the Health Ministry strengthen its capacity to deliver joined package of Sexual Reproductive Health services for adolescents and young .

In remarks, Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah, said the Document aligns with the Liberian Government‘s Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).

Ambassador Kemayah said its implementation is vital to achieve the Pro-Poor Agenda, which puts the Liberian People at the core of the development process involving all Liberians.
