Gov’t honors ECOWAS’ Cisse Lo, Prez. Weah calls for concerted effort

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - Amidst the Liberian Government honoring and naming the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament Mustapha Moustapha Cisse Lo, President George Weah has urged ECOWAS Member States to galvanize concerted effort to address the challenges they are faced with.

President Weah said: “It is only through actions and collaboration; countries of ECOWAS are able to address issues hindering regional peace and stability”.

The Liberian leader spoke Monday, September 16, 2019, during the official opening of the 4th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament Extra-ordinary Session at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia.

He expressed the hope that consensus reached at the end of the meeting will have a positive impact on Member States.

President Weah, who is also a former Parliamentarian of the ECOWAS Parliament, thanked the leadership for choosing Liberia as the venue for the gathering, while at the same time the ECOWAS Parliament Mustapha Moustapha Cisse Lo, was name with a Kru traditional name, ‘Manneh’.

Speaker Mr. Cisse Lo was named Manneh after President George Manneh Weah. Minister Sirleaf urged the ECOWAS Speaker to reflect on the name at all times by remembering Liberia in all the decision making processes of ECOWAS.

He noted that the name ‘Manneh’ is great and represents what he calls a God given gift to Liberia.

Meanwhile, a member of the ECOWAS Parliament from Nigeria, Gaza Jonathan Gbayfay, said Liberia will greatly benefit from ECOWAS because of the special bond of friendship between President Weah and ECOWAS.
