By Benjamin S. Taingay

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The governments of Liberia and the People’s Republic of China have signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement Thursday April 18, 2013 in Monrovia.

The US$17m agreement is intended to finance eight on-going bilateral projects in Liberia.

Foreign Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, and Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhao Jianhua, signed for their respective governments at a ceremony held at the Ministry on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

“I am always happy to sign this kind of documents, because signing them demonstrates China’s commitment to providing grants and assistance agreed upon to the Liberian Government. This shows China is a reliable partner to Liberia,” Ambassador Zhao said.

He said: “The money will go towards the technical and maintenance support of the Jackson F. Doe (JFD) Tappita Hospital in Nimba County, the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) and the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex, as well as the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) expansion project.”

“Some of the money will also go towards the support of the Chinese Medical Team at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Hospital in Monrovia, and the Agriculture Demonstration Center at the Center for Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) in Bong County.
