MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Country Director of the United Nations AIDS, Dr. Miriam Chipimo, is calling on religious leaders to assist in the awareness on the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS in Liberia.

Recently, UN-AIDS signed a communique with the Liberia Council of Churches to promote awareness on HIV/AIDS in the Country.

Madam Chipimo disclosed that of the thirty six thousand persons affected by the virus in Liberia, only twenty six thousand actually know their status and only thirteen thousand persons are actively receiving treatment.

She maintained that due to stigma, most people who already know their status are refusing to take treatment.

She spoke with this station Thursday in Paynesville.
