(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it will continue nurturing current relationship between it and various political parties in Liberia.

The Chairman of the newly constituted Board of Commissioners of NEC, Jerome Korkoya, made the statement Wednesday April 17, 2013 when the new Board met with the various political parties in Sinkor, Monrovia.

The inter-party consultative committee meeting is the first at the Commission’s Headquarters since the Board of Commissioners was appointed by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf recently.

Cllr. Korkoya assured the political parties that the Board of Commissioners will increase the level of confidence-building between them and the NEC.

He said: “This can be done by encouraging greater political party participation in nurturing genuine democratic elections in the country.”

“NEC will ensure all political parties’ full participation in all election-related activities undertaking by the Commission.”

Chairman Korkoya later gave detail briefing to representatives of political parties at the meeting on the pending Grand Bassa County Senatorial By-Election.

In their comments, the political party representatives cautioned the Board of Commissioners against bad election conduct.

They said: “The manner in which the Commission will conduct elections in Liberia, will determine whether, or not the country will remain peaceful.”

The political parties then promised to work along with NEC to ensure the advancement of democratic elections in Liberia.
