(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The Liberian Government has opened its side of the border with La Cote D’Ivoire.

According to Information Minister, Lewis Brown, the Government has also withdrawn soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) from the border area.

Minister Brown said: “The entire area, currently being manned by Police and Immigration officers, is very peaceful.”

“The border’s re-opening is in line with agreement reached amongst Liberia, La Cote D’Ivoire and the United Nations Missions in both countries,” he said.

On the gradual draw-down of UN troops from Liberia, Minister Brown also said: “Government is doing everything possible to immediately fill gaps created as a result of draw-down exercise.”

“While UN military staffs are gradually leaving, the Mission has already increased United Nations Police in the country,” he added.

UNMIL Chief of Public Information, Isabelle Abric, expressed the UN’s satisfaction with Liberia’s current peace and security.

Madam Abric said: “The draw-down of UN troops is in line with the current stability Liberians are now enjoying.”
