Press Union of Liberia releases elections timetable…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has officially released its guidelines and elections timetable for the conduct of its leadership elections.

Contested positions include President, Vice President, Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General.

A release from the PUL Elections Committee says members wanting to contest any position should forward their applications beginning Tuesday, October 15th to Tuesday, October 22 at 4pm at the PUL office.

According to the release, names of qualified applicants will be released on October 28, while campaign activities start the same day and end Friday, November 8, at midnight, and elections results release following counting of the ballot.

The PUL General Elections is in consonance with Article 11- Section 1 its Constitution which states that PUL officers shall be elected from among the full members through secret ballot on the second Saturday in November every three years.

It further states that such elections shall take place at the Union’s Congress at the end of the term of the incumbent leadership.

In a related development, the PUL has lifted the suspension placed on its Vice President Otavin Williams.

The PUL lifted the suspension Tuesday, October 8, 2019, during a called emergency meeting at the Union’s Headquarters in Monrovia.

During the meeting, a communication of apology submitted by the suspended Vice President was read after which a decision was reached by the general body.
In his communication,Mr.Williams said he has realized that a divided house can never stand, adding that he has aborted all legal stand taken by him against the PUL Leadership.

It can be recalled Mr. Williams was suspended when he disagreed with the PUL’s decision taken against Information Minister Eugene Nagbe due to his alleged negative assertions against journalists.
