MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says it has instructed Montserrado County Attorney to draw an indictment against Roots FM Talk Show Host, Henry Costa, for alleged commission of state crime.

Liberia’s Solicitor General Cllr.Syrenius Cephus told a news conference Thursday, October 10, 2019, that Roots FM has been operating illegally in violation of Section 15 of the Telecommunication Act of 2007.

Section 15 of the Telecommunication Act of 2007 in part, says no person shall own or operate a telecommunication network, except in accordance with a license or an exemption order issued by the LTA.

In a six count petition the Government of Liberia said that the broadcast equipment of Roots FM were being used to broadcast hate messages against the government.

This followed a search and seizure warrant from the Monrovia City Court.

On Thursday, October 10, 2019, the officers searched and seized essential broadcast equipment from Roots FM.

The equipment included transmitters, keyboards, mixers, microphones, headphones, computers, stabilizers, cables, antennas, generators and amplifiers.

In the meantime, more than five people have been arrested in connection with the Thursday, October 10,2019 riot after the closure of Roots FM radio station in Central Monrovia.
Speaking to ELBC on Thursday, Police Spokesman Moses Carter said arrest was made after some of the rioters attacked two other radio stations, including Freedom and King FM.

Mr. Carter said that police is also providing security for Freedom and Kings FM.

Meanwhile, calm has reportedly returned to Central Monrovia following the riots.
