Press Union of Liberia frowns on abused of press freedom by…

Daniel Ankrah/Maximilian Kasseh,Jr.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) Charles Coffey says his administration has received over two-hundred complaints of hate messages and speeches.

According to Mr. Coffey, insulting of government officials and other Liberians is not a part of press freedom.

He said:” Government’s move towards decriminalizing free speech does not give media institutions the right to insult people on their platforms.”

According to him, the PUL is seeking the establishment of the Independent Media Commission regulate and punish media entities for violating the PUL Code of Ethics.

According to Mr. Coffey, the PUL will not allow just the misconduct of two stations to tarnish the reputation of the other responsible and credible media institutions.
