NGOs support reduction in malaria deaths

By Jonathan Grigsby

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Several International NGOs at this year’s World Malaria Day celebration have pledged their support to reducing malaria deaths in Liberia.

The organizations said: “We will collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to ensure that Liberia has access to insecticide mosquito nets and their usage.”

“Our various entities will assist in the dissemination of malaria messages to enable people know how to prevent and control the spread of malaria,” they said.

Meanwhile, the Senate Pro-Tempore’s Chief of Office Staff, Yassa Browne, committed the Senate’s unflinching support to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in achieving its mandate.

The both Representative and Senate Committee Chairmen on Health and Social Welfare were, however, not in attendance.

The Committee Chairmen include Senator Peter Coleman of Grand Kru County and Representative Corpu Barclay of Bong County.

Several other individuals at the program expressed concern over the failure of Senator Coleman and Representative Barclay to attend the World Malaria Day celebration, considered essential to Liberia and its people.
