MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) says it is not in support of the planned Weah-Step-Down Campaign scheduled for December 30, 2019.

The ANC described the planned campaign as undemocratic and unconstitutional to Liberia’s desire for sustainable peace and democracy through competitive electoral politics.

The party said: “Though it encourages the right of citizens to peacefully protect and express their grievance to government for redress, it does not approve and will not support the December 30 assemble”. According to the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the ANC’s position is contained in a statement, issued in Monrovia at the weekend.

The Weah-Step-Down Campaign is planned by the Council of Patriots (COP), organizers of the June 7, 2019 protest against the Weah Administration.

Bomi County District One Representative, Edwin Snowe, has therefore commended the ANC for its declaration on the planned Campaign and protests in Liberia. “This is how responsible and patriotic opposition political party should sound”, said Representative Snowe.
