One of Liberia’s leading female organizations, Girls for Change will, in partnership with J and J Memorial Hospital, host a one-day Breast Cancer awareness event in Liberia.

During the Saturday, November 2 campaign, Girls for Change will organize free screening for women at the VOA Community along the Roberts Field Highway in Lower Margibi County.

A release issued Friday, November 1, 2019, quotes the Executive Director of Girls for Change, Ora Barclay-Keller, the event, under the theme, Committing to the Fight, I Am and I Will, is expected to bring together hundreds of women from across the VOA Community.

It seeks to counter the negative perception that nothing can be done about breast cancer and to instead promote how individual actions can be powerful and impactful to fight the disease.

Mrs. Barclay-Keller, citing statistics, said:” Five-hundred-forty-eight women are annually diagnosed with all forms of gyne-cological cancer, but needed awareness will be made to help improve the health outcomes of women living in marginalized communities.”

The Girls for Change Executive Director added that cervical cancer ranks as the first most frequent among women in Liberia and the first most frequent among women age between fifteen and forty four.
