(mylbsonline/Liberia)-The Executive branch of government has submitted a Draft Budget of US$553m to the National Legislature for review, with salaries topping among other budget items.

The Draft Budget, submitted by the Finance Ministry on behalf of government, covers fiscal year 2013/2014.

Deputy Finance Minister for Revenue, Dr. James Kollie, made the presentation Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Capitol in Monrovia.

In his presentation, Dr. Kollie said: “The Budget does not include borrowing of US$80m, as was contained in the outgoing budget.”

“More than US$40m of Contingent Revenue and an estimated US$150m of borrowing have been identified,” Deputy Finance Minister Kollie said.

He added: “Under the current Draft Budget the payment of salaries tops amongst the budget items with US$206m, Youth Development-US$5m, Health–US$11m, Education-US$15m, WASH-US$3.2m, Reconciliation-US$2m, amongst others.

Meanwhile, House Speaker, Alex Tyler, is urging the Finance Ministry to make available copies of the draft budget for all lawmakers to begin the reviewing process.

Speaker Tyler made the call on behalf of the Legislature. The 2012/2013 budget had projected revenue of US$672m.
