National Unification Day observes

By Jonathan Grigsby

(mylbsonline/Liberia)-Tuesday, May 14, 2013 is National Unification Day  was observed across Liberia as a National Holiday.

A derective  from President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf   called for appropriate program be organized to commemorate the day.

President Johnson-Sirleaf’s directive was contained in a proclamation issued Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

The proclamation is in consonance with an Act of the National Legislature in 1960, declaring the 14th day of May each year as National Unification Day in Liberia.

The Liberian President said: “The proclamation adheres to the principles of Justice, equality, fair play and equal opportunities for all, regardless of tribe, clan, section, creed, or economic status so that Liberians can be united in a consolidated whole.”

As a result of this national aspiration, a unification and integration program was enunciated and pursued in the country.
